RICS National Awards Finalist 2011

The Larch House won the RICS Wales Regional awards Sustainability category in May 2011. This category recognises projects that clearly demonstrate an efficient use of sustainable resources in design and operation while balancing the economic with environment criteria and meeting the needs of current and future generations.

Although much smaller in scale than any of the other shortlisted projects, the Larch House was praised for being a genuine solution for low energy social housing and for providing a significant educational role for building professionals and school children alike through the regular tours that have been organised during 2010/11. We were particularly pleased that our Larch House was honoured in this way as the RICS Sustainability Award is the most respected and professional award of its kind in the construction industry, with truly searching criteria, informed judges and a professional assessment process. The judges look for evidence of forward planning, continuous monitoring, using recycled or other environmentally friendly materials, innovation to achieve sustainability and if set targets such as CO2 emissions, energy consumptions are being met.

Following on from this regional win, the Larch House was automatically entered into the National RICS National Awards 2011.
