Dr Wolfgang Feist, the physicist who invented the passive house concept, has been announced as of one of 12 new recipients of an RIBA Honorary Fellowship, to be awarded in February 2013.

Each year, the RIBA Council rewards individuals from a diverse spectrum of backgrounds, including the worlds of education, sustainability, engineering, property development, journalism, politics and the wider built environment industry, for their particular contribution to architecture in its broadest sense. This includes the promotion of architecture, its administration and outreach, and its role in building more sustainable communities and in the education of future generations.

The 2013 RIBA Honorary Fellowships will be awarded on Wednesday 6 February 2013 to:

  • Barry Bergdoll, Professor of 19th and 20th Century Architectural History,Theory and Criticism, Columbia University
  • Philip Dilley, Chair of Arup Group
  • Dr Wolfgang Feist, environmental engineer (in fact he is a building physicist) 
  • Harry Handlesman, Client for Manhattan Loft Corporation
  • Rod Holmes, Client for Grosvenor Estates
  • Sarah Ichioka, Director of the Architecture Foundation
  • Prof Harry Mallgrave, Director of the International Center for Sustainable New Cities, Illinois Institute of Technology
  • Jonathan Meades, Broadcaster and writer
  • Jay Merrick, Journalist
  • Piet Oudolf, Landscape and garden designer
  • Lady Jill Ritblat, British Architectural Trust Board
  • Baroness Whitaker, Labour peer

 

The lifetime honour allows recipients to use the initials Hon FRIBA after their name.
