Is Passivhaus Sustainable?

Is Passivhaus Sustainable? Of course it is, but the second panel discussion in this Autumn series will explore some of the challenges presented by refurbishment projects, in particular their financial viability.  Whilst new build gathers momentum and approaches mainstream, refurbishments remain largely at demonstration stage, the recent TSB funded program being one such example.

If the UK is to meet its ambitious carbon targets then low energy refurb has to play a key role. Building Regulations and the Green Deal seem unlikely to get us there; is Passivhaus, or EnerPHit, the answer, or should the question be 'Can we afford not to'? Justin Bere and Maiia Guermanova join a panel of practitioners to discuss the challenges presented by refurbishment projects. Maiia Guermanova's talk will be based on Mayville Community Centre, debating whether a Passivhaus retrofit can be cost-effective when compared to refurbishments which comply with standard building regulations. Justin Bere will join the panel to anwer Q and A relating to refurbishment costs in housing.

The event is free to attend. Booking is essential as places are limited.
