RIBA Flash Event - Experiences from the Low Carbon Buildings Accelerator and Low Carbon Buildings Programme

The Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings (CEREB) is collaborating with ENVIRON to host a workshop for the Institute for Sustainability aimed at sharing ENVIRON’s experiences from the Low Carbon Buildings Accelerator (LCBA) and Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP).

ENVIRON, working as project managers for the Carbon Trust, is shortly to complete a six year project on the LCBA and LCBP schemes, two of the biggest research projects into new and existing buildings in the UK since the Probe studies.

The research covered 28 new and refurbished buildings representing all building sectors throughout the UK –from a flagship department store to a local pub taking in an army barracks, a building society, a converted mill, local authority offices and others along the way. The projects aimed to understand the steps needed to help the UK achieve its ambitious aims to cut carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.

This three hour workshop is to look at some of the lessons learnt from the projects to help others avoid the pitfalls of making a new or refurbished building more carbon intensive than its predecessor. Following the workshop a short paper will be circulated on the outcomes to all participants.
