This whole house, energy-saving refurbishment of a compact historic Islington house included the replacement of the roof with a highly insulted thermal bridge free structure, a new extension and a highly insulated basement opening out to a sunken garden terrace. The existing windows were refurbished with draught seals and new triple glazed windows were installed to the rear of the property. 60% of the hot water for the house is provided by a 2m2 solar thermal panel. The energy demand of the house has now been significantly reduced, providing a replicable retrofit solution for listed buildings.
