The Larch House has been recognised for its groundbreaking innovation at the Constructing Excellence Wales Awards 2011 in Cardiff on 14th July. The Innovation Award acknowledges the bravery of the project to create a unique building which leads the way in zero carbon low cost construction in housing.

The judges said “the Larch House totally challenges normal housing conventions with a plethora of new solutions that caught our imagination.” There is a huge amount for the industry to learn from Passivhaus and the judges commented that the implications of it are potentially groundbreaking.

The Innovation Award was not the only win of the evening for the UK’s first zero carbon Passivhaus as Holbrook Timber Frame from Bridgend, who constructed the timber frame for Larch House, was recognised with the prestigious SME Award following nomination by the project partners for their outstanding commitment to improvement and best practice, to sustainability and health and safety.

All winners from the Constructing Excellence Wales Awards are automatically shortlisted for the Constructing Excellence National Awards which will take place in November.
