Easter Sunday 2008 saw BBC1’s Countryfile programme feature Justin Bere’s eco-house ‘The Muse’. Interviewing both Justin Bere, the architect and owner of the house and Dusty Gedge of Living Roofs, the programme provided an in-depth review of the achievements and aspirations that have driven the development of this pioneering project in the Canonbury area of Islington.

Eco house
The Ecobuild exhibition started three years ago as a small arena for those interested in sustainability and using environmentally friendly materials in the building industry. Now it’s become one of Europe’s biggest events dedicated to showcasing the latest in sustainable construction products and services available for the general housing and building industry.
Juliet Morris visits the exhibition to look at some of the latest products and technology on offer for creating an energy efficient house. She also visits the home of well known architect, Justin Bere. He’s been building his energy efficient home for the past six years in the heart of London using strict ecological, environmental and sociological criteria. Helping him to achieve a green oasis is Dusty Gedge, who promotes green roof structures to help minimise the carbon footprint and bring a bit of the countryside to an urban setting.
